IDP Fantasy Football Scoring Calculator
Individual Defensive Player scoring for LBs, DL, and DBs — with ESPN, Yahoo, Sleeper, and custom presets.
How IDP fantasy scoring works
In IDP leagues, you replace the team defense (DST) slot with individual defensive players — linebackers, defensive linemen, and defensive backs — who earn points based on their personal game statistics. Every tackle, sack, and interception goes directly to your fantasy score.
The core scoring principle: volume stats (solo and assisted tackles) form the reliable floor for most IDP players, while big play stats (sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, defensive TDs) provide the ceiling. A linebacker who logs 10 tackles in a week might score 10–12 points without a single flashy play — consistent and predictable.
Platform scoring varies significantly — especially for sacks. ESPN awards 4 pts per sack, making pass-rush specialists far more valuable on that platform. Sleeper defaults to 2 pts/sack, putting more emphasis on high-tackle-volume linebackers. Select your platform preset above or enter custom values.
IDP position guide
| Position | Primary stats | Avg weekly pts | Draft priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| LB (Linebacker) | Solo/assisted tackles, TFL, sacks | 8–14 | 🔴 Highest — tackle volume is most reliable |
| DL (Defensive Line) | Sacks, TFL, QB hits, tackles | 5–10 | 🟠 Valuable if sacks score 3+ pts; boom-or-bust |
| DB (Defensive Back) | Interceptions, pass deflections, tackles | 4–9 | 🟡 High ceiling on INT weeks; inconsistent floor |
IDP scoring FAQs
What is IDP in fantasy football?
IDP stands for Individual Defensive Players. In IDP fantasy football leagues, instead of rostering an entire team defense (DST), managers select individual defensive players — linebackers, defensive linemen, and defensive backs — who score points based on their personal statistics: tackles, sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, and more.
How is IDP scoring calculated?
IDP scoring awards points for individual defensive stats. Common scoring: solo tackle = 1 pt, assisted tackle = 0.5 pts, sack = 2–4 pts, interception = 3 pts, forced fumble = 2 pts, fumble recovery = 2 pts, pass deflection = 1 pt, defensive TD = 6 pts. Point values vary by platform — ESPN typically awards more per sack than Sleeper or Yahoo.
Which IDP positions are most valuable?
Linebackers are typically the most valuable IDP position because they accumulate the most solo and assisted tackles, which drive the majority of IDP scoring. A linebacker averaging 8–10 tackles per game generates far more weekly points than most edge rushers or defensive backs. Pass-rush specialist DEs are valuable when your league awards a high sack bonus (3+ points per sack).
How does IDP compare to DST scoring?
Traditional DST scoring treats the entire defensive unit as one player, awarding points for team stats like points allowed and total sacks. IDP scoring tracks individual defenders separately, making the format more similar to skill position scoring. IDP leagues require more research but reward managers with knowledge of defensive personnel.
What is a good IDP score per week?
A top IDP linebacker averaging 8 solo tackles and 1 TFL per game might score 9–12 fantasy points per week in Sleeper default scoring. Elite weeks with a sack, forced fumble, and 10+ tackles can reach 20+ points. Defensive backs who pick off passes score erratically — high ceiling (3+ pts per INT), inconsistent floor.
