Start/Sit Calculator
Compare any two players using projection, matchup, floor, and ceiling — get a verdict with confidence level.
The 4-factor start/sit framework
Most start/sit decisions come down to four inputs. This calculator weighs them into a single comparable score so you stop second-guessing your lineup at 12:55pm Sunday.
Projection (50%)
Median expected points from a credible source (FantasyPros consensus, NumberFire, etc.). The single most predictive input — but never the only one.
Matchup rating (1-10)
How favourable is the opponent for this position? Use defensive rank vs position. 10 = top-3 worst defense, 1 = top-3 best.
Floor (15%)
Realistic worst-case outcome — the points the player scores if everything goes wrong but they still play. Important when you are favoured to win.
Ceiling (10%)
Realistic best-case outcome. Important when you are an underdog and need a boom week to flip the matchup.
Start/sit FAQs
How does a start/sit calculator work?
A start/sit calculator weighs each player's projected points, matchup quality, floor (worst-case outcome), and ceiling (best-case outcome) into a single comparison score. The player with the higher score is the start.
Should I start the higher floor or higher ceiling player?
Start the higher floor when you are favored to win the matchup or you need a safe baseline. Start the higher ceiling when you are projected to lose and need a boom outcome to swing the week.
How much does matchup matter for start/sit decisions?
For RBs and WRs, matchup is meaningful but rarely overrides talent — start your studs against bad matchups. For QBs, TEs, kickers, and DSTs, matchup is the dominant factor and you should stream based on the weekly opponent.
What is the most common start/sit mistake?
Recency bias. Owners over-react to last week's blow-up game and bench reliable players for the hot hand. Stick with talent and projected role over single-week noise.
